We all know that "Accra be packaging" - meaning we value appearance above all else. This compilation merely ranks aesthetics and other superficial factors pertaining to poolsides in Accra like the decor, architecture, colour contrasts, surroundings and maintenance. Popularity, price, good service and even functionality do not give bonus aesthetic points. That being said, here are 10 of the best 'packaged' swimming spaces in our capital city.
1: SANDBOX BEACH CLUB

Sandbox BC is a Lounge and Restaurant that doubles as an event space because of its immaculate architecture and decor. The pool adds to the aesthetic and is open for use to all patrons of the restaurant. The pool overlooks the Atlantic ocean and is complemented by the monotone burnished amber colour of the establishment. Sandbox also switches up their "SANDBOX" lettering every now and then which adds to the gram-able appeal of their poolside. Swimming is currently off the menu till further notice, meaning the pool is entirely for the gram so get your snaps in before it gets busy again.

The Olma Colonial Suites hotel is a 3-star hotel conveniently located near the center of all the night-time action in Accra. Its pool is constructed with stone instead of the usual blue tiling which gives it a unique and more natural appearance. The swimming area is also surrounded by strategically placed palm trees which contrast the almost achromatic shades of the establishment. The fact that this is also one of the most "Grammed" pools in Accra adds more credibility to its position on this list.
3: LA PALM ROYAL BEACH HOTEL

La Palm Royal Beach hotel has been around for over a decade yet their pool remains so well-maintained. The large blue pool is accessorized with rockery and palm trees befitting to the name of the hotel, and the ocean view ties in the natural and beautiful esthetic. The La Palm pool is the only pool on this list that was so elaborately thought out that it has a suitably placed bridge: a unique angle for your gram!

Number 1 Oxford Street is an ostentatious building decked with garish lights that line its elaborately constructed exterior to brighten up Osu. This combination of illumination and architectural complexity is however contradictory to its modest rooftop pool that overlooks the heart of Accra. Its poolside is a simple but chic space with a good mix of white marble-patterned flooring and hardwood floors. The classic cabana structures that line the pool match the universal white and brown colour scheme, and is accented by the ample emerld and aquamarine shades of the pool tiling and the greenery.

From the sea view to the rooftop layout, the Sun City pool area has it all. It is also one of the only dark themed pools in this city, giving it an extra unique touch for your Gram photos. The glass frame surrounding the edges give the pool an infinity feel while allowing in maximum light and scenery so you can watch the sun set over the ocean while you swim and gram. It has slipped on this list because though it has a lot of unique perks, it need a little bit of touching up to restore the beauty we have become accustomed to.

Size means nothing if you don't know how to use it, and boy does Movenpick understand the assignment. In fact, it's a lot harder to style bigger spaces because they demand a lot more, but this was definitely taken into account. The poolside has ample greenery in an overly industrialized neighbourhood that lacks natural shrubbery. The backdrop of the massive yet modestly shaded building against the colourful poolside adds to its allure. The equally uncomplicated decor accentuates the effort that was put into the landscape.
7: ACCRA MARRIOTT HOTEL

The inside the Accra Marriott Hotel is indeed as beautiful as the outside and this is visible at the poolside.The poolside has a modest water fountain feature strictly for the artistry, which depicts to us that a lot of thought went into the construction and design of the area. The pool and all its "apparel" are very well maintained and appropriately set-up for 'the gram'.
8: KEMPINSKI HOTEL

From this list it's clear to see that I prioritize shrubbery when considering outdoor aesthetics, yet Kempinski has made it here with barely any greenery in sight. Though they may be lacking in the natural contrasts and beauty that trees provide, they have still set up an elegant space with the use of classic decor and accessories. The duo-tone of their pool adds some contrast and allure to the ginormous, well maintained pool which is simple and inviting. The true beauty of the Kempinski poolside is best observed in person from above.
9: LA VILLA BOUTIQUE HOTEL

Bigger is not always better: and this especially rings true at the La Villa Boutique poolside. The greenery and stonework surrounding the pool bring out the admirable nature of the area. The blue pool is nestled between the green plants and the various shades of brown from both the furnishing and the stone-work. The serene and cosy environment is also strategically placed in heart of our most lively district.
10: VILLAGGIO TERRA ALTA

Though this pool is only open to residents of the Villaggio Terra Alta complex, I just had to include it because of its distinctive views the Kotoka International Airport Tarmac and the iconic backdrop of the Kente-inspired Villaggio buildings. Its a simple rooftop pool which is quite bare and unassuming at first glance, till you feast your eyes upon your surroundings. The bare simplicity complements the complex & colorful background. Though it has been decorated very minimally everything that is there serves a purpose and contribute to the resulting style.
All the hotel pool spaces on this list are free for guests - the costs only apply to outsiders. This list was too short to include every single 'Gram-able' pool in Accra like the pools at Altitude Residence, The Gallery, Accra City Hotel, The Woods, and many more. This list of the Best Pools in Accra is subject to change since this list is limited to 10 spaces. I will keep updating over time based on upgrades, downgrades, and my personal visits.
