There is a drink for everyone - from beers to shots and cocktails. If you are an alcohol drinker who happens to be in Ghana, you should make it a point to try these unique cocktails before you leave. These drinks are responsible of thousands of memorable days and nights, and truly depict "liquid courage". These cocktails are also available without alcohol upon request however some of the magic of the compositions gets lost without the inclusion of the spirit.
There is also more to do beyond these drinks depending on the days you go to these venues; so plan such that you go for the cocktails but stay for the good vibes.
1: KOKROKOO
📍Republic Bar & Grill, Osu
💵 GHS70+

Over a decade ago, Republic Bar first came up with this refreshing slushy mix that combines our beloved local beverage, Sobolo, with lime, mint, brown sugar and local spirit. Since then, it has steadily grown in popularity because of its consistent taste, unique flavor and the Republic Spirit it revives within us all. It is often taken with the iconic 'ginger shot'.
2: FIVE FINGERS
📍 Purple Pub, Osu
💵 GHC55+

The 5 Fingers cocktail mix was first debuted by Purple Pub in 2013. It gained its legendary status because per its name, it contained 5 "fingers" (shots) of different alcohol brands, yet none of the alcoholic content could be savoured during its consumption. This made it a silent but deadly concoction and led to a series of half-remembered wild adventures by those who sampled it.
The fruity blue cocktail owes its flavour to some ratio of our local Kasapreko Tonic, Smirnhoff Ice, Alvaro, Blue Curacao and a Smirnhoff Vodka. Nearby bars tried to rip off the recipe but the proportions were simply not the same.
3: APHRO CAIPIRINHA
📍 AlleyBar, Nyaniba
💵 GHC70

Alley Bar has a lot of memorable cocktails but their Aphro Caipirinha cocktail stands out because the ingredients are different with a Ghanaian twist. A standard Caipirinha is made with Brazilian cachaça, sugar and lime but at Alley Bar, it is a refreshing, passion-fruit flavored drink made with lime, sugar, mint and triple distilled Ghanaian Aphro Palm Spirit.
4: HIBISCO MARGARITA
📍 La Borracha, Labone
💵 GHC80

La Borracha Mexican Restaurant is a unique, authentic and one of a kind establishment in the heart of Accra. Besides dominating the hearts of its patrons with the assortment of entertaining programs it offers from Tuesdays to Saturdays, La Borracha is also a memorable hang out spot because of its intimate, well decorated setting, sumptuous food and absolutely riveting cocktail mixes by their manager and Ghana's pioneer cocktail genius, Chris. While every cocktail on the La Borracha menu is sure to leave you anting more, their Hibisco Margarita is a unique blend of Latin America and Ghana in a way that only a true maestro could create. The cocktail is a sweet mix of Ghana's infamous Sobolo hibiscus tea with Latin american Agave nectar and Tequila as the alcoholic base. It also infuses some other traditional margarita ingredients like triple sec, mint and lime. This drink is not only refreshing but also efficient and absolutely delectable.
5: BAD GUMMIES
📍 Oliver Twist Shack, Lartebiokorshie
💵 GHC35

The Oliver Twist Shack is a hidden gem with a lot of welcome surprises and they have the perfect cocktail to match that persona; the Bad Gummies cocktail. 'Bad Gummies' is a sweet mix of Blue Curacao, Malibu, Liqueur, Soda and the special ingredient that gives it its unique name, Gummy Bears. I love this drink not only because of it gets the job done while having a pleasant taste, but also because you have little gummy surprises to fish for with every sip.
BONUS: FAST TRACK
📍 Bloom Bar, Osu
💵 GHC150

The Fast Track came out in 2017 when BloomBar was established, and gained popularity as BloomBar captured the hearts of both locals and foreigners alike. The drink is one of the fastest ways to hell, which is where it gets its name. This solid mix of Tequila, Smirnoff Ice, Grenadine and a last special ingredient, has a mellow taste which entirely masks all traces of the tequila. Now that BloomBar is a seasonal establishment, this concoction is only available in the month of December.
