Launching and sustaining a business demands considerable effort, and the journey doesn't get any easier as time progresses. Between November 2022 and October 2023, we actively participated in the "Grand Openings" of various novel establishments and venues within the hospitality and entertainment industries. Unfortunately, through the subsequent year of challenges, a notable number of these ventures faced setbacks which led to them struggling immensely or closing down entirely. On a positive note, we are pleased to highlight the top 5 venues that have not only weathered the challenges of being a new business against all odds, but have excelled within the industry in less than a year.
#1: MAD CLUB

Launched in May 2023, MAD Club has become a standout venue, utilizing strategic marketing targeted at foreigners and elites. Boasting impressive lighting, professional bouncers, renowned MCs, and top-notch DJs, the club has created an exclusive atmosphere that attracts patrons from both near and far. The addition of captivating performances, ranging from local talents like the Flawless dance studio, DanceGodLloyd, R2Bees, Medikal, and Camidoh, to international megastars like 2wo Bunnies, Musa Keys, DJ Cuppy, Soul Natives, the Compozers, MI Abaga and many more, further solidifies its appeal. MAD Club's success and strategic approach have earned it the top spot on this list. Additionally, the adjoining 24/7 dining service, Dstrkt 24, enhances the overall experience by offering fantastic meal options throughout the week. With a cozy exterior, an international menu, tasty cocktails, and captivating decor, Dstrkt 24 complements MAD Club and sets it apart from both new and old establishments.
#2: ALORA BEACH CLUB

Alora has joined the ranks of Polo, Sandbox, and a select few as one of Accra's exclusive high-end Beach Clubs. This elegant Beach Club made its debut in early March 2023, instantly setting a new standard for beach lounges in the city. Distinguished by its immaculate decor and sophisticated poolside, Alora Beach Resort stands out among the various Beach clubs in Accra. Patrons can unwind amidst the opulent outdoor setting, indulging in exquisite cocktails and delectable cuisine at Alora. Now, luxury, good food and vibrant activities at a beach resort in Accra are easily accessible without much effort, albeit at a premium. The serene resort not only provides a relaxing atmosphere but also serves as the venue for some of the most sought-after raves in the city.
#3: CYPHER LABONE

Differing slightly from the other establishments featured in our list of preferred new spots for 2022-23, Cypher Zone stands out as one of the few functional gaming spaces in Ghana. Launched by the parent company of Palace Mall at the conclusion of May 2023, Cypher Zone serves as an alternative hangout and activity hub catering to both young adults and families. The interior, adorned with dark neon aesthetics, creates a mystic glow in the dark ambiance that particularly resonates with the younger generation. Notably, the space includes an area designated for younger children to socialize, engage in physical activities, and forge new friendships. Cypher Zone welcomes visitors of all ages, offering a range of entertainment options such as arcade games, bowling, mini golf, and laser tag.
#4: CLUB RAVE

Since its commencement in late November 2022, Club Rave has gradually endeared itself to our affections through its welcoming exterior, stylish interior, and dynamic events. Rave strategically employed a blend of beloved local DJs, MCs, organizers, and influencers to capture the attention of both local residents like myself and international superstars such as Davido, Wizkid, Chance the Rapper, and more. Wednesday nights at Rave are its major attraction, but the overall atmosphere and vibe consistently bring us back. The clientele of Club Rave comprises impeccably dressed young adults who are more than willing to invest in a good time. The establishment's versatility, with various setups that cater to the preferences of both party enthusiasts and those who prefer a more reserved social experience, is notable. The indoor lounge, for instance, provides an intimate setting suitable for dinners and laid-back activities like 'Paint & Sips'.
#5: BIG LEAGUES

Big Leagues redefines the concept of a "Sports Bar," presenting an upscale sports bar experience that is contagious with its vibrancy. Its setup is particularly captivating to the lively and young at heart after a few visits. Opened in late June 2023, Big Leagues strategically positions itself in the heart of our downtown area, providing a dynamic and refreshing option for thrill-seekers and party enthusiasts. Despite its classification as a sports bar, Big Leagues elevates the experience by offering sophisticated bar food and upscale elite dishes. The establishment's uniqueness lies in its diverse settings, catering to a wide range of patrons. From the main interior equipped with over two dozen TV sets for watching any sports game of choice, to the outdoor lounge ideal for laid-back gatherings, to the indoor gaming space for active competitions, and the outdoor area adorned with murals of the most recognizable faces in global sports—there's an aesthetic to suit every preference. Additionally, Big Leagues tantalizes taste buds with some of the most delectable experimental cocktails, leaving patrons craving more.
Other notable newcomers like Beehive would certainly have secured a spot on this list if not for occasional hiatuses throughout the year. While it's unfortunate that some cherished hangouts couldn't make the cut, these establishments stand as symbols of perseverance, innovation, and inspiration for aspiring individuals. The top new spots in Accra might not be permanent fixtures, but they are currently open for you to visit and savor the unique atmospheres they provide.
