20. LIVE LIKE A LOCAL FOR A DAY

Minimum wage in Ghana is GHC14.88 (Just under GHS450 a month) but the average middle-class worker earns about GHC1500 - GHC 3000 a month. Challenge yourself to live like a working class or middle class local for a day (a week if you have the time). Try to survive on GHC50 - GHC100 all day. This should be easier for those who already have a housing unit with running water and electricity. On this day/week, immense yourself entirely in the culture. Use public transport to get around, practice local customs, eat local food (from well patronized spots), buy fruits and vegetables from the market, listen to local radio stations like YFM, hang out at a neighborhood 'pub', go to church, watch local TV.
